Having a brick barbecue is a wonderful addition to any home. If you love spending time outdoors with family and friends, cooking up slabs of ribs, grilled chicken, vegetables, and all the wonderful foods associated with summertime, a brick barbecue is the way to go. These barbecues are the perfect solution for grilling large quantities although they can be used for a simply family dinner. They look incredible and can actually increase the value of a home. The first thing is to get all your materials and tools together. You will need fiber reinforced concrete mix, mason or mortar mix, a trowel, hammer, float, brick set, mason line, chalk, a hand level, and brush.

To build your brick barbecue, start by measuring the area where the barbecue will be built and then use stakes to mark that area. Keep in mind that the footer of the barbecue should be 4-foot, eight inches square and six inches deep. Next, prepare the concrete mix according to the package direction and place the footer. The nice thing about using fiber reinforced concrete is that you can eliminate the need for rebar, which will save you both time and effort. Now on the footer, you will need to draw an outline, making sure you leave two-inches of excess around all sides. Next, prepare the mason or mortar mix according to the directions. Starting at the corner, you will place the first brick and then use the mason/mortar mix in between each brick. Just be sure the first course of bricks is securely bonded to the footer using mortar.
